• Start options: Start indoors 4–6 weeks before last frost, or direct sow after nights are warm.
• Prep your mix: Pre-moisten seed-starting media first (evenly damp, not soggy), fill containers, then brush off extra media so the surface stays airy and clean.
• Sow: Plant shallow (about 1/8–1/4"). Gently firm for good seed-to-soil contact.
• Warmth: Basil loves warmth. Keep around 65–75°F for best sprouting and steady growth.
• Germination: Typically 5–10 days. Keep uniformly moist during sprouting.
• Light: Full sun outdoors, or bright window / grow light indoors.
• Spacing: Thin or transplant to about 10–12" apart for bushy plants.
• Harvest: Pinch tops early and often to prevent bolting and encourage branching. Remove flower buds for the best leaf flavor.
